How Supplement Guarantees Work

Money-back guarantees vary widely in practice. Here is how to read one before relying on it.

A money-back guarantee is a commercial promise made by the seller, not a regulatory protection. Its value depends entirely on the terms attached to it and on the seller honouring them.

Read the guarantee page rather than the banner. Useful things to identify: the length of the window and when it begins, whether opened bottles qualify, whether shipping costs are refundable, who pays return postage, and the exact process for requesting a refund.

It is also worth checking whether the guarantee is offered by the brand itself or by a reseller, since that determines who you contact. Keeping the order confirmation, packaging and any correspondence makes a later claim considerably easier.
